Heartwarming as Marzipan on a Cold Winter’s Day: The Bittersweet Story of the Niederegger Dynasty

Lübeck, 1800. At the Maret confectionery, exquisite pastries and display cases full of delicacies await. Yet journeyman Johann dreams of so much more. He wants to craft marzipan that warms the heart on cold winter days and melts on the tongue like snow in the sun. With his skill, he quickly makes a name for himself beyond the city limits. But just as he and his great love, Anna, are within reach of their goals, an economic embargo is imposed, bringing trade in precious, sun-ripened almonds to a complete standstill. The two seem about to lose everything – until Johann takes another gamble … with grave consequences.
