In February 1945, the young instrument maker Paul takes a harmonica with him to the front, hoping to spread at least a little joy. He dies, but his best friend Erich manages to save the instrument and flees with it. Thus begins the harmonica’s odyssey – it finds its way to Brittany, helps a young boy in Paris find his voice, and, after stopovers with a junk dealer and the pastor’s son Will in the USA, resurfaces in Germany, where an unexpected encounter takes place in the 1990s...
